All the answers to your questions!

What ingredients are in Gold & Ivy candles? +

Gold & Ivy candles are made with American grown soy wax, phthalate free, body safe fragrance oil, cotton wicks, and no dyes. These candles are as simple & natural as they come!

Also, you may be asking yourself… what is phthalate? Well, phthalates are additives that add flexibility to plastic & why on earth would you want them burning in your home?! So many fragrance oils have this hidden inside, but I make sure to never use those. Phthalate free over here!

What is a soy candle? +

A soy candle is made from soybean wax. Wax from a soybean is non-toxic, biodegradable, carbon neutral and a renewable sustainable resource.

What are the benefits of soy? +

There are so many benefits to soy wax! Soy wax is 100% natural which will burn cleaner, cooler, slower and more evenly.

Soy candles produce 90% soot than paraffin candles, making them a healthy alternative to paraffin wax candles. This soot can blacken walls, ceilings, and furniture, contaminate ventilation ductwork in your home, and most importantly, add toxic carcinogens into the air that you breathe. Nobody wants this in their home!

Additionally, soy helps U.S. farmers by creating important economic growth for the agricultural sector of the US economy.

Are your candles vegan & cruelty-free friendly? +

Yes, they are! I am happy to report that neither myself nor my suppliers engage in animal testing & my candles contain no animal-derived ingredients.

How long will my candle burn? +

Burn times will vary depending on a different factors, however, based on 4 hour increment burn testing, here are the average burn times:

16 oz // 100+ hours

4 oz // 20+ hours

Wax melts // 10 hours per cube (60+ hours per pack) *this will depend on your personal preference & how often you replace the wax

Note: If you keep your candle burning all day long, it will surely burn through faster than our projected timeframes.

How fragrant are Gold & Ivy candles? +

Due to the natural nature of these candles, they are not overwhelming and can be used every day. For larger rooms or rooms with high ceilings, I recommend the 16 oz. candles. I find that the 4 oz. candles fill a small-size room nicely such as a bathroom, or at a desk.

What's the best way to burn my candles? +

Always allow the melt pool to reach the edges of the jar before extinguishing. Doing so not only allows for even burning, but prevents "tunneling" and wax from building along the sides of the jar, ensuring product quality and longevity.

Do I need to trim the wick? +

Yes. Always. Be sure to trim the wick to 1/4" before each lighting to prevent wick curling. Trim your wick with a simple finger pinch or by using scissors or a proper wick trimmer. As a safety precaution, never leave wick trimmings in your candle jar!

What's the proper way to extinguish my candles? +

The best way to extinguish your candle is by gently blowing out the flame. A wick snuffer works great, as well. Never attempt to extinguish a candle using water!

Can I reuse the jar? +

Absolutely! Simply scoop out the remaining wax, use a bit of warm soap & water to clean the jar, and you’re good to go!

5 ideas for reusing your mason jar:

  1. Add a layer of stones to the bottom, and use as a succulent planter.
  2. Place a tea light at the bottom for some lovely ambience.
  3. Two words. Iced coffee.
  4. Use as a pen and pencil holder or makeup brush holder.
  5. Fill with candy, tie a bow around the top, and make someone very happy.
